Released in 2007, ‘Control’ is a biopic about the life of Ian Curtis, from his teenage years, right up to his tragic death. The film was directed by Anton Corbijn, a Dutch photographer, film director, and movie director, who originally moved to London in 1979 influenced by Joy Division themselves, photographing the band on numerous occasions, also directing the music video for “Atmosphere” (1988). Corbijn first met the band within his first month in London, convincing them to meet up with him at a tube station to shoot – though the band liked the photos, the magazines passed them up, that is until after the death of Ian Curtis, where the the image eventually came to cover an NME magazine (1980).
